Jimmy Dunne Named Arccos Golf Chairman of the Board
Renowned Finance Executive and President of Seminole Golf Club Assumes Newly Created Role
STAMFORD, Conn., – Arccos – the pioneer of big data and Artificial Intelligence for golf – today announced that it has appointed Jimmy Dunne as Chairman of the Board. In this newly created role, Dunne will help guide Arccos as it continues to rapidly scale its platform that has already been used to record more than 500 million shots during over 10 million rounds played by Arccos members.
“It is an absolute honor to welcome Jimmy Dunne as Chairman of the Board,” said Sal Syed, Arccos CEO and Co-Founder. “The first time I met Jimmy was when he spoke to my class at Yale almost a decade ago. I was profoundly struck by his ability to see the North Star so clearly in the face of unimaginable adversity. His words stick with me to this day: ‘when you do the right thing, you don’t know how high the ceiling is.’ I know that with Jimmy’s guidance and support Arccos’ potential ceiling just got even higher.”
“The importance of data and analytics in sports has been growing for many years and golf is no exception,” said Jimmy Dunne. “I have never met a golfer who doesn’t want to improve their game, whether that’s a professional or a high handicapper. PGA Tour players use on-course data from ShotLink and Strokes Gained analysis to understand their strengths and weaknesses. I firmly believe that every golfer of every skill level should have access to similar on-course data, so we can stop guessing and start focusing on parts of our game that need the most attention. I’m truly excited about the vision Sal and his team have for Arccos and I’m looking forward to working with them to leave the game of golf better than we found it.”
A renowned finance executive, Dunne co-founded Sandler O’Neill + Partners, L.P., and helped it become the largest independent full-service investment banking firm focused on the financial services sector. In 2020, Sandler was acquired by Piper Jaffray, forming Piper Sandler, where Dunne now serves as Vice Chairman and Senior Managing Principal. He is a heralded philanthropist, perhaps most notably for creating The Sandler O’Neill Assistance Foundation, which paid the college tuition costs for the children of his many colleagues who died in the World Trade Center attacks on September 11, 2001. A proud Notre Dame alum, he also serves on the university’s Board of Trustees.
Dunne’s achievements on the golf course are also legendary. He started caddying as an 11-year-old at Southward Ho Country Club on Long Island, NY. There, he honed the skills that have seen him compete in the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship and capture club championships at National Golf Links, Sebonack, Garden City and Shinnecock Hills. Dunne currently serves as President of Seminole Golf Club.
Golf’s first Artificial Intelligence platform, Arccos automatically tracks your shots while delivering in-round insights and personalized Strokes Gained analytics for every game aspect and each club in a player’s bag. The system is highlighted by an A.I.-powered rangefinder, smart club distances and caddie advice for every golf hole on earth. These and other features helped new Arccos members who played at least 10 rounds lower their handicap index by an average of 5.78 strokes in 2021.
